Leather is a core wardrobe essential, providing contrast, balance and edge to any outfit. A strong leather piece is a great investment because it will always be in style and will hold it's quality season after season. Leather works day-night, city and coastal; it's both chic and cool, contemporary and classic. Injecting leather into your wardrobe is an easy way to add structure, texture and "cool" to any outfit. Basically, leather is always a good idea!
Styling leather into an outfit can be a great way to add depth and dimension, whether you go the classic route of a biker jacket, the sporty leather short, an on-trend choker or a tailored leather dress, it is a fail proof way to update a look. Here are 4 different ways I am styling leather going into Winter.
The leather choker
Chokers are the must have accessory right now and are easy to style as they go with a high neck, a scoop neck or a V. I made this leather choker out of an old waist tie and it works perfectly against white or a soft blazer to tone down the grunge vibe. The dress is Witchery, the blazer is Sportsgirl. A choker can also be worn reversed with the ties sitting along the upper back - perfect with a low back dress or top.
The Tailored Dress
A leather dress can be a little over the top so opt for small leather details on a well cut dress. This bust panel is just the right amount of leather to look fresh without being too much. Style with an oversized tote and boyfriend blazer for day or a clutch and overcoat for night.
The Biker Jacket
A leather biker jacket is a wardrobe essential. It is versatile, comfortable, easy to style and a wardrobe staple since the "model off duty" term was coined. I wear mine with something longer line such as a midi dress or over a long cut shirt. The slightly cropped style needs something longer to balance out the shape and a tight midi works perfectly. Look for a soft, plush fabric to counteract the shine of the leather. This jacket is Sportsgirl (faux) and the dress is Bardot.
The Sporty Short
Leather shorts have a fun, sporty feel and are an instant pick up to any outfit. I juxtapose the sporty factor with a feminine, soft top and add something fun like this skull scarf to tie it together. Steer clear of anything loud or skin baring on top when styling leather on the bottom to avoid looking like a nylon disaster. A good ankle boot works well with a leather short, or a lace up pointy flat.
