Styling With Texture - 4 Ways

Texture if often the last point of call when we think "style". The first things that come to mind are colour, shape, silhouette and cut. Texture is, in my opinion, one of the most important elements of styling. If, like me, 90% of your wardrobe is black, texture can be the magic ingredient to add interest, drama and edge to your wardrobe. Winter and texture are a marriage made in sartorial heaven, as layering, bulk, plush fabrications and additional accessories lend to a range of styling options. Whether it be a cable knit, faux fur scarf, shaggy vest or embellished bomber, texture is the best way to keep your wardrobe current, unique and full of possibility.

The Shaggy Jumper

Shaggy jumpers are comfortable, fun and are on trend with the current 70's vibe. The shaggy style is open to many interpretations, with shearling having a big moment through to mohair and craft-esque blanket jumpers. I love this shaggy jumper which I bought on ebay a couple of years ago. The sheer paneling tones down the ottd and keep it sexy, balancing out the bulk. Styled here with skorts over tights and ankle boots, this is a winter favourite. It is comfortable, cosy and unique.

The Textured Tee

I picked up this textured box tee at an op-shop recently, it goes with everything I have an fills the place of a basic tee while adding interest and shape. The neckline is crisp and the strong shape styles really well with a stretchy, streamline midi skirt. Add bold silver elements, this style is too strong for fine jewellery and needs something solid to make it pop.

The Faux Fur Coat

Fur is everywhere right now, in all variations. I have had this coat for years and it always feels relevant. The cape shape is super comfortable and the hood with the large buttons are slightly theatrical. Style faux fur with simple pieces as the texture does all the talking. Keep jewellery and accessories to a minimum and opt for a large tote as a small bag will throw off the balance of the volume.

The Furry Vest

A furry vest has as much impact as a fur coat but is far more versatile. Style a cropped vest with a mini or midi dress or over a basic with denim. Don't be afraid to layer, adding a scarf, a hat or layered necklaces. This look demands fun and glamour.
